The Shafer Gallery will host an opening reception for its “Collector’s Edition” exhibit from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. June 13 in the Gallery and will feature light refreshments and a gallery talk.
Shafer Gallery Director Alyssa Bliven said the exhibit is one-of-a-kind.
“Collector’s Edition is the Shafer Gallery’s summer exhibition celebrating the fascinating and eclectic world of local collectors,” she said. “From fine art and vintage postcards to hand-stitched quilts, taxidermized animals, a Japanese friendship doll, and Toyota model cars, the show highlights the personal passions that drive collecting. Drawn from private collections across the region, “Collector’s Edition” offers a rare glimpse into the stories behind these cherished objects and the people who collect them. The exhibition invites visitors to explore the intersection of memory, identity, and material culture in all its quirky, beautiful variety.”
The collectors featured will include Frank McKinney, Stan Christiansen, Jimmie and Virgina Downing, David and Krystall Barnes, Bob and Marilyn Loss, Dody Burkey and Margaret Corbet, Andrea Buhler-Lartz, and Randy Allen.
The exhibit will run through Aug. 30. The Shafer Gallery is currently operating on summer hours and is open Monday through Thursday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission is always free.
