3rd Annual Butterfly Quest

Take part in a butterfly count and learn how to identify our local butterfly species at the Cheyenne Bottoms 3rd Annual Butterfly Quest.

A 30-minute review of local butterfly species and identification tips takes place from 8:30-9 a.m., followed by searching and counting butterfly species for an official North American Butterfly Association Count. For those who are confident in their butterfly identification skills, arrive at 9 a.m. to head out on the count.

The NABA Count is in its 38th year and gathers information to track population trends. Organized like the Christmas Bird Count, much of the count is done from a vehicle, with maps and data sheets provided. Those who want to continue after a lunch break held from noon to 1 p.m., will go back out until 4 p.m. There is a fee of $3 for the count, due the day of the event. Please preregister by July 5 by calling KWEC at 1-877-243-9268 to reserve a spot or for more information.
